The Hounds of The Storm Screening and

Showroom Grand (Re)Opening

The Hounds of The Storm, by Irish filmmaker Clem Mcinerney and featuring Cord team rider Conor Maguire, had it's Cornish premiere presented by Red Bull and Carve Magazine on Saturday April 6th to a packed house at the Cord Surfboards factory and showroom.

Two weeks previously our brand new state of the art surfboard shaping machine had been delivered. This thing is the best machine in the UK, but at over four meters long and weighing in at about two tonnes it is an absolute monster. To get it to its new home in the back corner of the factory we had to knock through three walls, so we figured we might as well do a bit of interior remodelling as we rebuilt the place. It was one hell of a job, and we had the night of the film premiere as a hard deadline. Good friend Rab and middle brother Bubs grafted like you wouldn't believe, with friends pitching in left, right and centre. Markie dealt with the headaches. He reckons that the new space is built entirely out of swear words and beer.

Saturday night rolled around, and Storm Kathleen rolled in. Conor was en-route from Ireland but flights were getting diverted and cancelled because of the high winds. We'd advertised a BBQ and the gazebo nearly took off. But then the rain stopped, and crew started to arrive. Kelvin from Porthleven's Shoals Brewery had a huge ice box full of beers.

When it came time to get things going, Conor and crew had landed but hadn't even got onto the A30 yet, so we made it a triple bill evening showing TWIN, Lukas Skinner's latest epic edit, and then hoped that Conor would arrive before we hit play on The Hounds of The Storm. Carve Mag's Steve England hosted great interviews with Markie and Lukas before their films, and then just when we thought we'd have to dial in Conor to broadcast a chat to the room by phone from the A30 roadworks, the lads pulled into Wheal Kitty.

It was an epic night, and a great way to cut the ribbon on the new space. Now to sweep up and stack it full of surfboards!

The Hounds of The Storm is everything you'd wish for and expect from the Conor & Clem creative partnership - hellish Mully and massive emerald green slabs interwoven with some incredible marine wildlife footage and e Irish land and seascapes. As soon as it gets its general release online, we'll let you all know. Until then, here's a gallery of photos from the nights so you can relive it if you were lucky enough to get a ticket before it sold out, or so you can see what you missed and make sure you're first in line next time.
