THE OTTER

Born from our ever-popular Ark model, the Otter was developed for the fast, hollow waves of Indonesia but has proven itself as a performance shortboard across a huge spectrum of waves around the world.

Head shaper Markie Lascelles pulled in the nose and tail of his Ark template to create a more performance outline for The Otter, but kept a similar bottom profile of a single concave running into four channels through the tail, releasing through a baby swallow tail for additional bite. This combines with the twin fin configuration to maximise speed and hold on a really manoeuvrable surfboard. The Otter features a pronounced performance rocker along its full length to fit into the pocket and to help with making those late drops. The pronounced rocker is balanced out by a beaked nose to keep some foam in the nose for efficient paddling and catching waves.

The Otter earned its name on a team trip to maxing HTs in the Mentawaiis, when Markie borrowed an impact vest and “was sliding around on his board like a slippery otter.” Since that trip Arthur Randell has been surfing the design as a performance shortboard and showing its versatility, from Cornish beachies to Indo reefs.
